The cover title 11/2004 of Germany’s left-wing weekly magazine stern is one of the most disgusting examples of anti-American reporting from the hell’s kitchen of the biased German media:

How America Lied To the World

The war lie – We know with certainty that the justifications for the Iraq campaign were pretexts. Stern reporters outline in detail how the entire world was deceived.

The Stern cover picture shows a US President, who with an imperial gesture – memories of the Hitler salute are brought to mind – is optically standing in the middle of the devastating fires of a war of conquest.

stern editor-in-chief Andreas Petzold (winner of the prestigious “Davids Medienkritik Award 2003” in the category “anti-Americanism”) does not even make an effort to hide his bias:

To mark the anniversary of the war’s outbreak on 20 March, Stern is publicizing the history of the origin and development of a gigantic war lie. …

At the end of the research a highly intriguing puzzle came into being that exposes the propaganda machine of the US administration. The result: Shortly after his inauguration into office, President Bush made the march on Baghdad a part of his agenda. The only thing missing was a good justification. Above all, Bush was a willing instrument in the hands of people like Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. In addition, the manipulated information fit into his worldview. He was only mistrustful of those who brought the information from the intelligence services into question. If the world community wants to avoid preventive wars in the future, than it may never forget how this war came about. During their research, the “journalists” at Stern conducted in-depth discussions with well-informed, objective witnesses: With the Bush-hater and current member of the Kerry team Joseph Wilson, with the Bush-hater and Democratic Senator Bob Graham, with the Bush-hater Greg Thielmann, with the Bush hater Karen Kwiatkowski.

With the results of its research, the Stern sketches a picture of a power-obsessed and war-mongering Bush administration that represents the center of a neo-conservative conspiracy to conquer the world. When comparing history’s monsters, Adolf Hitler is the only one still worse than George Bush for stern – and even that appears in doubt. It is certainly no coincidence that the far-right, neo-Nazi NPD is agitating with a poster that labels America as “world arsonist”:

In the future the NPD won’t have to worry about creating their own propaganda material in the fight against America and President Bush. They can fall back on the work already done for them by the anti-Bush brigades at stern.
